just wondering really what made u purchase a carlton?

heres the reason i know have my very own carlton Gsi!!!

i first noticed the carlton gsi about 7yrs ago whilst helping my dad at a car boot sale!! directly opposite us on another stall a guy had this huge black car for sale that looked very very nice and i went over and asked the guy what it was, after spending about half an hour speaking to the guy i went back and told my dad to have a look and then a week later my dad bought the car!!

i loved it, it was big, comfortable and was by far the quickest car i had ever been in!! my dad loved it too and i especially liked it when we pulled up next to a boy racer at the lights and left them standing with very little effort!!

not long after my old man bought his 12v carlton i passed my test and said that as soon as i could aford it i would get one of my own!! after a few years driving small powered cars and building up my no claims bonus i decided one day to get a quote from an insurance company on a carlton gsi and was over the moon to find i could finally insure one!!

from that point on i never looked back and spent the best part of two months looking for one, then one morning whilst looking on the auto trader website i found and purchased my very own 24v carlton gsi and i love every minute behind the wheel!!!

so thats how and why i bought my carlton!!

whats your reasons/story's??

I needed another car as my previous was restyled by another car, and I never buy new cars (mainly for the cost, but mostly because I'm interested in the mechanics as well, there isn't much you can do on a new car without being a software specialist)

The carlton was from an elder couple, and had always been well maintained, and it went for a nice price, I kinda 'rolled' into one...
If my veccie hadn't been hit, I'd prolly never gotten one... Now I got one and I'm happy I did

I liked them when they first came out, the company I worked for had a few in the fleet all in Spectral Blue. I remember the day they arrived, about 6 or 7 all in a line, next to the old beige Granadas. Looked a million dollars compared to the Grannies, all sparkling in the sunshine. The Grannies were only a year or so old at the time, but very unreliable. The Carltons lasted for alot longer than that!

Our lass used to park next to one where she worked and always admired it, and her Dad built Lotus Carltons at Hethel. When we bought one, it seemed a natural progression to fit a Lotus kit............The Louts was created! Shocked

I' had  six Senators,2.5s to 24v Autos and manuals, but I've always liked estate cars and was casually looking for a Carlton Diamond.
Believe it but about the end of November a chap came into my shop,an Offy, and said he had heard I was into Sennys but would I be interested in a Carlton Diamond Estate Auto. It was outside I had a look and said I would be. Eventually I bought it and it is quite good condition with MOT to Nov 06. Sometimes we get lucky Jerry.

well 5 years ago i had my first carlton off a m8 a 2litre GLi with lotus spoiler an it was great was faster than my m8's nova's an a lot more comfortable with full electris (was ex demo model)

loved this car but the arches were beginning to go Sad so i bought a mk 3 astra an spent 4 years playin with that an thinkin bout getting another carlton

then 1 day the astra broke terminally (was to much to fix for me) so i sold it 2 a guy who was gonna put a LET in her

so i needed a cheap car so i bought another carlton a blue CDi which served me well untill the radiater sprung a leak  Sad so whilst lookin for a new rad on ebay i spotted my dippy

was on an ebay add very small pic no clear detail an at a dealers

so i took a chance thinking if its that bad i could nick the leather an the rad an put in my CDi

when i saw the car i knew straight away i was gonna buy it

had black leather, good arches and sills and was the same green as my original 1  Grin Grin Grin

I bought my first Carly in 2000, because my wife (we were only just together then) had loved them since her ex-husband owned one.  I had driven her husbands one just after he bought it and remembered being impressed so I thought 'what the hell' and got one myself - a gold 1989 CDi and loved it.  Been through another 3 since then including my current steed.

The same chap put me on to this site too - nice chap!

Driven lots of FWD cars, owned some very fast ones too. The LET Nova was the fastest but was very limited by FWD and would suffer badly in the wet (easily wheelspin in 5th with wet road-specific tyres). After the Nova I wanted the same sorta speeds but with RWD and more room. The carlton seemed the logical choice, it has similar lines to the Nova which I love, the chassis design was solid and didn't weigh too much considering it's size. After driving it as a 177bhp 3.0 12v for a while I wanted LET power once again...

Not quite a carlton but i'd always wanted a senator since i was about 14,probably because the police used to have them round my way,Had cavaliers ever since and figured if i missed the senny this time i'd never get one due to the age/running costs ect so here i am.yet to be tempted by a carlton (yet!)

Bought my Carlton because i needed a cheap taxed & tested car for the winter while i was working to get my 24v Senator throught it's next MOT.  Bidded on the Carlton Hybrid that i now own & lost the auction by £2.00 as i was at work when it ended & i forgot to up my bid!  Ended up buying a Senator 12v for the same purpose & forgot about the Carlton until the ebay seller came to me with a 2nd chance offer as the original buyer didn't turn up.  I'd already paid for but not collected the Senator, i'd had a good week at work so i thought f*ck it & bought the Carlton as well!!

Have since bought a rare model Opoel Monza & the driveway is getting rather full so the Carlton is up for sale simply because i do not want to part with my 24v Senator.  Having said that i may end up keeping it as i'm not going to put it on ebay & it's a handy car to have as a back up!!

I've always been a biker and a car was just a necessary evil until the day I bought my first Carlton.
For the first time it was actually a pleasure to drive a car, that was 8 years ago and I haven't driven anything else since.
I suppose I bought a Carlton in the first place because of the galactic milages they achieve and the Luxury the provide.
I worked with a guy who had a Mk.1 with 280K miles on it and it still never let him down and had been in numerous Carlton Taxi's with 250K miles on them and still going strong.

I'll keep driving a Carlton until I can't get one anymore, having said that, the one I have now should see me OK for a good few years!  Grin
