93 Carlton 2.0L Diplomat auto

WWW
« on: October 01, 2011, 02:26:35 PM »

Hi,
I can not find the RON Octane plug on my 93 2ltr 8v Diplomat saloon. According to other threads and my owners manual it should be on the off side towards the back of the engine bay. Not their on mine.
Is it possible that the later models did not have one or located somewhere else?
I do have a plug with nothing attached to it which I assume is the plug for the fault code reader located on the off side of the engine bay hanging underneath the plastic water scuttle at the back of the bulk head attached to the ECU wiring loom. Could this actually be the location for the RON plug and for some reason it is not their?
The car runs ok and I run it on normal RON 95 UL. Quite often it can smell a bit rich. The mpg could be better, averaging about 32mpg, but it is an auto and only likes staying in 4th when driving on the flat, as soon as you go up the slightest of hills it unfortunately prefers 3rd.
Any pointers would be grateful.

MPG is about right  Wink
RON plug is the other side (near side) on my 93 by the rubber seal /plastic scuttle.
as for when the auto box changes down going up hill, I only owned a carlton auto for about 2 weeks  Undecided so someone with an auto will know better.

OK, thank you. Out of interest, does your 93 model have an electric aerial or is it like mine built in to the rear screen? I only ask as I have a brochure from early 93 showing and listing electric aerials?

mines in the screen,
you can get an automatic mast that sits in the rear !/4 N/S
there was also an option to have an aerial in the front screen (useful for phone kits)
If your asking because you have poor reception and radio drop out there is a known issue with the grundig head unit.

The radio reception is fine. The original Grundig was not in the car when I bought it, but the changer is still in the boot. I was able to get hold of a Philips rds radio of the right age to go in but obviously it means I can not use the changer. Doh! I only asked about the aerial because of the 93 brouchure I have showing Carlton's with fitted electric ones as standard. Thank you for the info.
