Yesterday morning (11th Sept), I watched America remember its dead from the 9/11 atrocity. Very dignified, very emotional, and a very well planned memorial day.
Then, I started watching Britain remember the same outrage. Bit of a difference though. A bunch of Muslims decided to burn the American flag. An American flag with 8.46 printed on it. The time the first aircraft hit the North Tower. How the hell did they manage to get away with staging this? What a terrible insult to all American and British families who lost loved ones on that day. Why was this demonstration not crushed before it had the chance to get going? I feel rather embarrased to be British today. I can only say to our American friends, you have my unreserved apology.
Then, later on, two men were stabbed in a nearby pub. Apparently, they were members of the EDL, an organisation which takes exception to this sort of demonstration. Who are the bad guys here?

I have to say that I am no longer proud to be British as the British have nothing left to be proud of. History is gone, the last lot in power made the present worse and it will be many years before one could add the word 'Great' to Britain again.

Well Pete, if you lived in the London area and watched the local news programmes, you'd soon realise that there is no Britain anymore. When I retire (if the government lets me), I'll be heading off to the Isle of Wight, one of the last little bits of true England left. I'm going there at the end of next week, can't wait. Just a week though

I didn't feel ashamed, just faintly sick that we no longer have the courage to deal appropriately with Vermin like them. It should also be remembered that we had to take down all of the surveillance cameras that were put up in a potential terrorist breeding area because it annoyed the residents As far as I'm concerned, it wouldn't bother me if a surveillance camera was trained on my front door; but then I have no reason to be concerned about it and it would make me feel safer!

Simple. Country is fucked. Government is full of pussies, and the Police cannot enforce the law anymore with out being criticised in the press. Welcome to the new UK ten years after the murder of the innocent on 911. Seems to many people have extended rights compared to the people that matter in the UK.

For some reason, I hit the Modify button on Mr. Man's post instead of the reply button!!!
Not wanting to bring the race issue up - as I have said before, I care not for a man's creed, beliefs or skin colour as long as he comes here and adds value to the country - but on a visit to Berlin, Mrs Pedro commented that she felt safer there whether it be later at night, during the busy shopping hours on the K'Damm or Freidrichstrasse, wandering around Kreuzberg, Potsdam Platz or simply using public transport (which in Europe is largely excellent) because there were less 'foreigners' loitering around and no gangs of youths with nowt to do.
Compare to London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, any UK city..........

It's not a race issue Pete, but that was just downright disrespectful and insulting.
And it happened in London, my birthplace.

Since I have a long memory, I remember that there was dancing in the streets of Gaza when the news of 9/11 broke

No matter who you are, you have no sense of humanity if you glory in someone's death or suffering. I have no problem with immigration - what I think is the problem is when the immigrant group doesn't assimilate and becomes big enough that they believe they have the power to impose their culture and beliefs on the host country.

Precisely. That's what's happening in the UK.

It's worth noting that some of those in the recent arrests in Birmingham on charges of plotting suicide bombings come from the area where the cameras were removed Edit : - I've just noted on our local news that a documentary film celebrating the 'victory' of getting the cameras removed is being shown at the Midlands Human Rights Film Festival. It's called 'Defeat of the Champion' It would appear that blowing innocent people to pieces is classed as a 'human right'. Enoch Powel was a classical scholar and in his speech he used a classical quote "Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad"
