Well FINALLY picked her up yesterday and drove home with no major
problems, Firstly MANY MANY thanks to everyone who offered help

Happily the previous owner put air in the tyres and electricity in the battery so i could drive away.

The previous 2 owners are both mechanics and both work at the same place
where i picked it up from and are a nice bunch of fellas.

They get a discount from the local vauxhall dealer accross the road so everthing that gets replaced is genuine gm stuff which so far includes...

exhaust and cat + air flow meter/alternator/battery/front pads.

Car drove as it should on the 60 odd mile trip home through a mix of heavy traffic and motorway cruising twice the autobox changed up from 3rd to neutral at about 30 mph but as soon as the speed dropped it went fine.

Cruise control and aircon not working neither are both n/s elecy windows and
that switch has been removed fron its position, so further investigation required.

Half decent kenwood stereo with boot changer and a key fob remote thingy
that doesnt seem to do anything.

Handbrake shoes draggin cos its been parked up so long (no spring action at lever)

Seemed to run a bit hotter than my other dippys just below half in traffic and about a quarter ish on the motorway.

A brilliant motor for slightly more than the scrapman would give you, i will run it for a bit and then see what happens at mot time...

Pics taken about 3 weeks ago on first viewing.

You say that the cruise control isn't working, I can't see the cc motor cable attached to the throttle lever or the cc motor for that matter Huh

What's the betting that it will also need one of those extremely rare working cc ECU's as well Roll Eyes

I sold mine because the 2.0 ecu doesn't seem to like the 24v lump, I installed Omega CC instead

I reckon that's the best plan if you can't get your hands on a guaranteed working replacement.

Having taken apart the actuator, I reckon that it is a pretty robust unit and any problems almost certainly lie in the ECU Sad

Gotta be honest didnt even notice that (obviously)

when time permits will be hounding Mr Mad/Murph to sort what needs sorting.

Yippee, nice to see its found a home Smiley.

True it was very close to the Vauxhall parts place, round the back.

Well done for gettting it. From the pics it looks as nice as I remembered it and nice to see inside/around the wheel arches  Wink.

My guess with the windows is corroded wiring joints under the feet of the NSF passenger. Thats what mine had (only drivers windows half worked) - both Murph and Carlton_Mad predicted it. Carlton_Mad has now proved & fixed it, so you will have an answer soon from him  Roll Eyes. Problem is water collecting in said footwell. Hopefully, in your case, due to lack of use ( condensation ?). Mine is still sometimes re-appearing but it might be as the residual dampness still gets ventilated away - it was a puddle (clinging to hope). I assumed the dippy had been out of use for a while as evidenced by the half flat rear tyres. Anyway its rescued now.

UPDATE well its been a while now so i thought i should update the thread
because so far ive done exactly erm well nothing really Roll Eyes Roll Eyes just been to busy.

Really enjoyed driving around a bit here and there with no major problems apart from the gearbox
issue mentioned previously.

I did manage to locate the gearbox ecu pulled off the heavy duty looking plug
and gave it a scrub and squirt, and also checked atf level all seemed ok so further
investigations required.

Also need to sort out the handbrake (cable ?) and then try and mot it to see
if anything else needs doing as the last ticket had some advisories for o/s ball joint
and track rod end..

Watch this space.

Jusy another update to show how much i have (nt) been doing

Used the last of my gliptone leather cleaner (top stuff) on the
seats and judging by the way it soaked in i reckon thats the first time
they have been cleaned.

Washer jets not working so removed tank and cleaned it today it was full of
black sludge so used  boiling water and a finish diswasher tablet (its all i could find  Grin Grin)
but it did the job.

Car continues to get intermitent use only once a week or so fires up first time every time except when
hot when you have to "pretend" to start it then start it properly otherewise it cranks for longer then
it should before starting.....

Gearbox continues to play silly buggers changing from 2nd to neutral around half the time, Sometimes
the sport mode overcomes this, atf level is ok and ECU conections seem good as well.

N/S headlight has been replaced by a later (bosch) unit but the wiper assembly wasnt so will need one of them one day.

MOT due soon so will see what horrors that throws up and then report back.

I dont want to worry you but i had a 3.0 24v Senny last year with the same autobox problem your describing, needless to say the problem did not get better, it got worse , and then the whole engine seemed to fuck up and it was the end of the car (quite high mileage and was a bit rough anyway so i scrapped it in the end)

you may be looking at a autobox transplant

whats the mileage of the car btw? i have same engine and autobox on my carlton and she is sweet as a nut on 125K

Im not worried mate  Grin Grin i only paid scrap money and if it cant be fixed thats where it will end up,

The gearbox fault has been like it since before i got it  sometimes it does it and sometimes it dont.

Engine is on 165k + and still sounds sweet.

Well last week was MOT time and the moment of truth i was expecting a few "issues" as
indicated by advisories on the last ticket,

So Mr Murph came round and had a look see and adjusted the handbrake shoes and having previously
cleared the washer jets i was quietly confident of a pass....

No such luck the front ball joint and some corrosion  plus a dodgy tyre meant much work needed
so cue the A Team music and the Dartford posse Misters Mad & Murph.

The second pic is not the titanic  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes but drivers side chasis rail or whats left of it...

Lots of work still left but i guess when you pay scrap money for a car you take your chances
to be fair the back end is rock solid (no rusty arches  Grin Grin)

Big love to Dartfords Dynamic Duo Thanks guys

The work is only half done as yet as we ran out of daylight and pain killers.

It's recieving replacement wishbones and having the handbrake shoes overhauled too.
