I've just changed the viscous fan on my 2.0 Dippy.
What should have been about an hours work, took about eight hours.
The fan, pulley hub and pulley are different on post '93 cars, but I thought ;never mind', so I had a go anyway. The pulley's didn't line up. the fan blades fouled the crankshaft pulley vibration damper and I had to slacken the automatic timing belt tensioner to get the last bolt out of the pulley hub.
Beleive it or not, the worst job was putting the vibration damper back on. These have to be perfectly lined up before the bolts will engage, but it's almost impossible to see the holes, it's all done by feel. Took me hours.
Having got it all back together, as stated before, the fan blades then fouled the crankshaft pulley vibration damper, so I re-profiled the blades a tad. All is ok now, but lads, if you've got a '93-on model and you need to do this job, FFS buy '93-on parts, it's so much easier.
Should've mentioned this earlier, I used parts from an earlier car.

Hello Marcus.
The new fans fooked I'm afraid.Had it running this morning, it started to get a little warm, so I looked under the bonnet and the fan was stationary. So it looks like I'm going to have to do the job again. I'll probably order some new blades from Vauxhall, which I should have done in the first place.
Other than that, the car's fine, very happy with it.

Why not sell the Volvo for 15 quid and make 3 quid profit Marcus  Cheesy
The original fan I took off had the single bolt through the middle at the front. It looks like the 2.6 & 3.0 litre 24 valve engines have the same fan fitted, Graham at onlyopels has got a couple, so looks like I'll be taking a trip over there soon.

Johnny A, you don't mention electrics & Tetleysmooth in the same sentence.  Grin
I haven't had the car long enough to burn it.

Sorry dude! I was'nt aware of any difference in the fans, otherwise I would'nt have sold it to you. If you get the kit for a leccy fan and come over I'm sure Chris and I can have it sorted reasonably quickly for you.
(Sorry to rope you in again Chris  Grin) LOL

No problem Murph. This is a learning curve for me too  Grin
If the worst comes to the worst, I'll stick the bashed up fan back on.
I'll see if the 24 valve fans are the same before I think about electric fans.
Next time, the job shouldn't take so long  Grin

Sounds like what i did in the end mate, i put the origional fan back on, just as a stop gap.  I couldnt even work out how to remove it in the end, which is why it only had 4 blades on the fan Sad  Just then it started whining which was an annoying noise.

Have you replaced the drop link?

I would sell the volvo for 15 quid, but im a greedy git and im sure it just needs a 60p fuel filter and a flush to get thru mot, i cant see anything else wrong with it.  Then i will sell it for more and possible my senny also, for a GSI.... Mind you i do like the senny , we will se when i put it in for MOT what condition she is in.

The fan was easy to remove in the end Marcus. One big Allen bolt comes out from the front.
Don't ever get a V6 Volvo i.e. 760, I had one a couple of cars ago, they're very quick but very thirsty.
Also I could never quite get the engine running right, no matter what I did to it.
Not fitted the ARB link yet, been too busy doing other stuff. They look a piece of piss to replace though, so once I've done the fan, I'll sort the link out.

Thanks Martin, but I'm going over to see Graham at onlyopels this morning. He's only about 20 mins away from me.
I'm taking a couple of bits with me to make sure everything is going to fit.
If I have his one and it's ok, hopefully it'll be a while before I have to touch the fan again.  Smiley
