There are a number of these on the beach of Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight; they have weathered out of the cliff and fallen to the beach.

Apparently they were formed by a Dinosaur walking across mud; the footprint was then filled by material being washed in which subsequently formed a rock harder than the surrounding layers.

White wellies aren't popular in Wales. Green ones are more common, especially with velcro on the inside at the front. Dunno why, but me Paula won't let me have wellies.

Where exactly is that, Mr Melinx?
I may be off to the IOW again in September, and would mind taking a peek at that.
I was over there in May, but with 2 young grandsons in tow, the last thing they wanted to see was dinosaur prints or fossils.
Is Compton chine and bay just along the coast from Shanklin, on the Military Road?

Yes, but the photograph was taken just to the east of Hanover point, which technically puts it in Brook Bay.
I usually park in the small car park just above Brook Bay at 50 degrees 39 minutes 03 sec. North: 1 degree 27 minutes 21.42 sec. West (Google Earth) and walk a few hundred yards along the beach to Hanover point.

If you pick extreme low tide, you can walk out to see the petrified forest in the rocks off Hanover point (don't know what frightened it Grin)

Before you go it may be useful to print out the tide tables from the Isle of Wight County Press website Wink

Forgoing the white wellies is perfectly acceptable Wink mine were green, Margaret's were the white ones !

I didn't pass on Rusty Arches implication that Dinosaurs wore white wellies to Margaret; I know were 'getting on a bit' but she might not appreciate it Cheesy

Hope you have a great time, as you probably know, there's masses to see there !

Unfortunately I will probably miss the chance to meet you there since I have (as yet unconfirmed) plans to be there with the Diplomat in the first two weeks in Oct. Sad

I'll leave the kettle on for you then.
We're staying at Lower Hyde, Shanklin by the way. Our first time at this particular site.
Have you been there? Any opinions?
We normally stay at either Thorness Bay or Whitecliff Bay.

Never been there I'm afraid, so no opinion other than it seems to be further from the shore than I would like to be.

We always stay in holiday bungalows on the seafront at Seaview.
