Thought I ought to post in the hello section....
My first car when I started driving was a 1600 4 door Ascona, closely followed by a 2 litre with a Carlton A thrown in at some point. My dream was to own a Manta, and I eventually bought a metallic black Exclusive coupe. I attended Billing with it and the OMOC from about 1994 (even going in our 30ft canal cruiser at one point!). I soon realised that I preferred the Ascona’s, and got fed up of chasing the rot on the Manta (even though it won 3rd in Billing concourse), so I broke it and sold it for parts. I then had a 2 door Ascona which I lowered, fuel injected, 5 speed, skirts, 400 style front spoiler, rear spoiler, Recaro interior. That got sold a few years ago to buy the wedding dress!
At some point along the way I bought a 12v Carlton from Billing. I had been suckered by a shiny paint job (and a large quantity of beer helped!). By the time I had sobered up the shine wore off and as I queued to leave Billing, and the engine started to overheat things headed south! I then spent loads of money on it, and eventually sold it for half what I originally paid for it as I had acquired a low mileage 24v.
So apart from the Volvo’s, MG’s and one or two other unmentionables I have owned, I am now left with the following:

24v Carlton waiting for its new arch to be finished:

My Lotus Carlton number 788:

My 1200 Suzuki Bandit:

My RD250 currently in pieces:

My Velocette Venom:

My Ascona 400 and Ascona 2 door 1600 (neither of which look like this right now....):

My MG ZT+ 190 which is currently for sale (and amazed me how good it was if only it wasn’t front wheel  drive):

The wifes car:

And a whole host of other stuff. If it’s got an engine, I find I have to buy it! Amongst the other stuff I have is a Daimler V8 250, BMW R80/7.

Right now I am in the middle of rebuilding the brakes on the LC at the moment:

Rob.

I'm in Shelton Lock. There is a metallic Grey (I think 24v) drives past my house every morning from Chellaston direction, don't suppose you know who that is?

It's probably the way I wrote it (I am down one bottle of wine this evening!). The grey one looks to be in good condition.

Mine is living outside at the moment and is half way through a new arch. I went to start it yesterday so that I coul get a mates Volvo down to the workshop for a cam belt change. It started, ran for about 5 seconds and then died. It now won't even try and fire when cranked. i suspect the alarm, but going to have to figure out why it wont start as it needs to be mobile really.

Post the question on here. You'll have an answer (or at least an idea of the problem) from some of the gurus here.

Would love to pop over sometime for a nosey and chat (if that doesn't sound too cheeky?).

More than welcome mate.
Are the Ascona's works in progress?
If so can we have pics or perhaps a whole WIP thread?

We may be a Carlton forum but an Ascona thread would still be awesome - one of our most watched threads on here is a Monza WIP.

Work needs to be in progress, but isn't! Need to finish my workshop so I can clear my garage out, and when I have the room I will start work on them.

I have spent the day rebuilding the front calipers on the LC. I have one piston left which will not go in for love nor money!

Frustration reigns!

Thanks, but would the temp sensor stop it from firing? Can hear the fuel pump relay clicking, so will try hot wiring the fuel pump to see if it runs. If it does I will check the immob....

Yes it will definately stop it firing - it's happened to a few peeps on here, myself included.
Come to think of it, the crank sensor could be a suspect too.

Just in case you need it, here's how to bypass the immob:
Yello plug above the glove box.......should be red/black tracer & black/red tracer wires, cut them & join them.

Refers to the plug in the alarm ECU.

Likewise.

I gave up 21:45! The house still has windows and there are no caliper shaped holes in the walls!

OK thanks. Will check the resistance on the sensor.
