I got the Grundig 10 disc changer and the 4870 head unit out of my Diplomat. Got all the cables etc that are needed.
On the saloon the hanger for the changer is mounted under the rear parcel shelf.
Where is the changer mounted on an estate? Is the changer hanger the same for both saloon and estate?
I have my Sony radio cd at present, but it ain't period for the car.

It bolts upright to the floor. As you stand at the back of the car with the boot open it would sit on the right just inside the boot hatch. Theres a pic on here somewhere.... *EDIT* Found it!  |

Cheers for that. Wasn't where I hoped. Its right in the firing line of anything in the boot where it can easily be damaged. Volvo had the right idea. Each side of the boot floor had a storage bin, the right hand side one was used for the cd changer, out of harms way. Hmmmmmm. Dunno now?

You can of course fit it wherever you want - I've seen them fitted in the glovebox before now.

I was wanting to fit it as it would have been if someone had specced it from new. Hence my question. I didn't get the answer I hoped. Bollocks.

I've seen them shown with a cover that matches the boot carpeting which I assumed was original; how substantial that cover is and capable of providing protection, I've no idea.

Didn't know that. Another useful nugget of info. Wouldn't have thought the cover would be that substantial. More for cosmetic reasons I imagine.

But thats in a saloon He wants ESTATE Fair point and I didnt realize that myself because the saloon ones are usually fitted under the parcel shelf. The estate ones are usually fitted in the same relative location though so those pics still illustrate where it would sit. |

The next question, the changer cover, were they readily available or is the one in the pic a one off? If its a one off, I got a mate who is a chippy, so I get him to make me one. Saves me getting splinters in me digits. As for the covering, I got the boot carpet out of the Diplomat. If nobody wants it, I will invest in a tin of sticky sticky and cut the mat to shape.

I think the cover was just made of carpet anyway, but building a box around it would certainly afford it some protection.

That is what I was kinda thinking. Anything that protects me cd changer is a good thing. I guess they're hard to come by nowadays.
Just out of interest, if the standard cd changer should go tits up, are any other makes compatible with the blue lead that plugs into the changer?

I don't fancy trial and error, if that involves me buying aftermarket cd changers, only to find the aren't compatible.
