The faith has finally been restored!!

« on: April 15, 2011, 07:52:07 PM »

As most of you know I'm coming to the end of the restoration of my Gsi3000. Just the engine to complete and refit and she'll be (almost) finished.

Looking through some old files, I came across these photos I took of the engine bay as a reference to help when refitting. Thought I'd post them on here.

It's not a pretty sight, so not for the faint hearted!!! Can't believe it can get that messy under (a neglected) bonnet. Suffice to say it's a little tidier under there now.

Believe it or not however, the engine sounded sweet and quiet with no knocks or smoke. A testament to how great these old lumps are!

As the bay is now... (note: all the parts (apart from the copper brake pipes and Battery) are the original parts from the above photos).

Good ol' aerosol (the flexi stuff you can paint plastic with). Also did the brake fluid reservoir and washer bottle the same.

I have only recently started following your restoration. I love originality. Personally I love the memories that seeing a 'brand new' Carlton evokes. I also like the model you have chosen. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Well done

Why you locking it away? You want it out in this weather. I'm gutted I haven't got mine on the road yet on days like this  Sad

Thanks diplomat2.6. I like originality too (with a few personal touches dropped in here & there). Each to their own, but I'm not really a 'modded' car fan, unless it's subtle and tasteful (a pink flipcoated Corsa with more skirts than M&S and bigger speakers in the boot than Knebworth is a no-no in my books). The Gsi was/is a beast of a car, and I'll be proud of owning a roadworthy one...when it's finished!!  Wink

Don't be daft mate, sure, I've put the hours in on mine, but it's taken me years....and it's STILL not on the road. I'm so envious of all the folk on here, including yourself, who drive their Carly's/Senny's on a daily basis.

I love seeing these old barges on the road no matter what condition they're in. As long as we can keep getting our 12 month tickets to keep them going it's all good  Grin
