£265. Limited to 6000 miles. Full breakdown cover. Fully comp. No no-claims allowance, cos both me and missis drive other cars.

Not too bad, I think.

Advantages of being an old gimmer, then!! Grin

As a 3.0 GSi with lotus kit and 18s it was £512 under a classic car policy, can drive anyone elses car TPO, breakdown cover, legal and track day.

23 years old, 2 years NCB (however NCB doesn't effect a classic car policy)

I am hoping it will go down with the 2.0 Turbo in, because they seem to go by CC rather than output.

Thanks for the tip off about confused.com Murph, i've just been quoted £220 by "Peoples Choice Insurance" saving me £45 in March !!!! Wooohoooo!!!

But runner up was Budget who I have used before and third was Swinton Insurance (who've just taken over Walmsleys Brokers), who I am with at the moment.

Recommend it to all ... its like those mortgage advisers who check loads of different lenders ... but these guys check with all different insurers with your details automaticaaly ... you GOTTA try it when yer insurance is next due Smiley

I am in an F* region (Asbo Central - bordering on a refer I guess Smiley - hopefully moving out to a nicer area in June) by the way with 3 points on licence for 40mph in 30 area (whilst on long country road, no houses etc but with policeman with hairdryer behind hedge ... the road should be a 40 or 50mph IMHO)

Hows about 155 renewal from Egg (Uk insurance) for the 2.5 Estate limited to 10k miles, fully comp, windscreen cover, excess 50 quid can drive other folks cars (with their permission of course Wink) Um, breakdown is with GEM motoring assist, pay and claim so very cheap for the full bifta 43 a year, the only down side is you are restricted to a max of 60 quid for a home call out. Used it twice last year, first time was when I filled up the wife's Diesel Zafira with unleaded Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed luckily I didn't start it, so got recovered to the Vx dealer, payed the man up front put the claim form in and the cheque arrived by retuurn of post, second time I ran out of fuel on the A1, my own fault, a long story, anyway pays the man again, claim in as soon as I got home and once again cheque by return of post. Result Cool Cool

You don't wanna know what mine is.

I'm 25
I drive a group 16 car
I've been banned for 6 months

But:
I have 3 years NCB
I am limited to 10,000 miles a year (don't laugh, they can't prove a thing Wink)
I'm on TPFT

With Tesco (about the only ones who would actually insure me)

It is within 3 figures.........

Ah, Bootie3367...........Good to see another GEM member.

I think I'm right in saying that the 'GEM Motoring Assist' breakdown cover is the only cover available that will take you & your car back to your own home from anywhere in the uk, & not to the nearest garage. If you're like me & do ALL your own repairs, then this is the only breakdown cover that fits the bill. They have a 24 hour help line with contacts to a country wide recovery service, but you are also free to chose your own recovery firm if you so wish. They are, as Bootie says, very quick in paying by return of post. My brother & I have been with them for years, I have never needed to use the service (yet), but my brother has used them a couple of times with no problems. If you use your own friendly, local recovery firm, they will often wait till you get the cheque through so that you don't need to pay 'up front' first. There is also the bonus of an excellent quarterly motoring magazine that comes with this - my January - March 06 edition came through my door thismorning Grin

Insurance; My last renewal was £210 Fully comp, but with £120 voluntary excess (this brings it down on an old car), & depending on which Carlton I want to run for a while I just ring them & they swap the details over for no extra charge. If I had wanted to have both Carltons insured at the same time, then it would have cost an extra £218 for a second policy for a year - Norwich Union, btw.

The problem comes when you have a 'modified' car - such as a different engine fitted (as I found out a few years back with an old Jag). Engineers report required & all that........but that's another story.
