my engine management lamp came on and i plugged it in and got the codes :- 16 knock sensor 1 , 17 knock sensor 2 and 18 knock control module fault ?? is this a case of just faulty knock sensors or a ecu fault ??

24v?? if so try an ecu first knock sensors arent usually a problem

On one of mine the engine light was permanently on when I bought the car, code said knock sensor.
As advised on ABS I removed the knock sensors, cleaned then and the mounting face thoroughly and tightened them up to the correct torque which is said to be very important.
Not a problem since.
I would do that first, its a few minutes work once you have got a small enough torque wrench.

i took all the ecu's out used vaseline on all the connections and touch wood it been ok since !!!! my one touch drivers window started working and the dead locks too , i did find some corroded green conections at a multiwiring point on the passenger front A post near the floor
i suspect my car got gremlins from being left in a corner for 3 yrs and corrosion has got in the wiring , so far only probs are heater resistor knackered i think , no rear windows and cruise control dont decrease speed but who needs that lol!!
