Anyone know of one either on a car or for sale?

I just found this in a 1993 Carlton sales brochure lent to me by MOK and it caught my eye somewhat.

The kit comprised of a spoiler (same as GSI by the look), alloys (same as GSI 24v) and this.....

I gotta get me one of those!

It certainly was'nt "sportstyle"!

Nice post Daz!

Although this kit is mentioned in Sean's post the price was not - he seems to have concentrated mostly on pre-facelift kits.

Although this kit is mentioned in Sean's post the price was not - he seems to have concentrated mostly on pre-facelift kits.

Ok Murph, the 1991 facelift Omega A's styling kit in Germany was called the "Sportlichkeit" and its part numbers from Opel are :-

17 19 665 - Rear Spoiler.
17 19 539 - Front Spoiler.
17 19 212 - Rear Skirt (Saloon).
17 19 213 - Rear Skirt (Estate).
17 19 029 - Side Skirt (Right).
17 19 028 - Side Skirt (Left).
17 50 316 - Wheels. (which were the 7J x 15 ET33 Omega 3000 24v/GSi 3000 24v items).

I cannot be bothered to scan and post pictures of this German brochure Murph, so if you want to see it....I could bring it to Billing for you to drool over. Interested??

Alternatively Murph, you could buy your own copy of this Opel Tuning brochure off of eBay....Here's a link to one!

http://cgi.ebay.de/17265-Opel-Omega-A-Zubehor-Prospekt-1991-/350350159315?pt=Zeitschriften&hash=item51927f2dd3

But if you don't want to struggle with searching for this kit in Germany, This later style kit was available to buy from both Irmscher GmbH and Vauxhall Motors too. Part numbers from Vauxhall are:-

91141311 - Rear Spoiler.
90369650 - Front Spoiler.
90369651 - Rear Skirt (Saloon).
90369652 - Rear Skirt (Estate).
90295137 - Side Skirt (Right).
90295136 - Side Skirt (Left).
90343162 - Wheels.

and finally from Irmscher are :-

i43 01 449 - Rear Spoiler.
i43 01 049 - Front Spoiler.
i43 01 499 - Rear Skirt (Saloon).
i43 01 498 - Rear Skirt (Estate).
i43 01 399 - Side Skirt (Right).
i43 01 349 - Side Skirt (Left).
i61 10 353 - Wheels.

I do hope that all of these part numbers will be of some help to you Murph! Smiley

Pardon my ignorance Embarrassed but do they actually do anything useful for the aerodynamics at normal road speeds ?

That's a good question Melinx and not ignorant at all mate! The short answer is both yes and no, I'll try to explain....

The addition of the GSi or Lotus style boot spoiler does indeed help to keep the back end in check on our cars Melinx. You probably won't notice it much at straight line at 70mph motorway speeds but at 100mph+ through some twisty bends the car will feel and be slightly more stable after a spoiler has been fitted to it.

I'm sure others will mock me now after that statement above but I found this out when I fitted a rear spoiler to my first 3.0i 12v Senator B in 1996/1997.

As for the rest of the Sportstyle kit, its more a case of style over function Melinx. Its only purpose was to make the rest of the Carlton range look a little like the more expensive GSi 3000 models.

I'd like to see proof of other's findings if they do mock you old boy!
Most properly designed aerodynamic aids work at higher speeds, as there's no real need for them to work at lower speeds.
long and complicated subject................many would find boring to be honest!

Lotus tried and tested a few designs in the wind tunnel (my sideskirts were test pieces), and only those 'aids' that actually improved the overal aerodynamics at speeds that the car was capable of were implemented. Those that didn't work were binned.....and rightly so!
If it don't make real improvements, you don't need it.

I've read somewhere that the rear spoiler on the GSI was insisted upon by the marketing team.

I wonder why Opel spent hundreds of thousands of Deutsche Marks developing an even larger electronic rear spoiler for the mechanically identical Omega Evolution 500's then??

Could've saved themselves a few quid towards the Lotus Omega/Carlton project since their rear spoilers are cosmetic/aesthetic attatchments....

To homologate it for the DTM perhaps?

the evo spoiler i had fitted to my blue carlton made quite a difference... over 80 it made the car more stable..
tried driving without it and the car felt light at the back end...quite tail happy...which was fun...
put it on and you could power round the bends...did a few track day with it...
