My fuse 13 keeps blowing and my dash doesn't work now.I think it is also used for the aux. fan (mines autobox), central locking? anything else?
Any ideas?

by aux fan do you mean the elec fan on the radiator ?
that would be the air con fan (unless the aircon has been removed and the fan is being used for extra engine cooling)
I don't have my haynes to know what fuse 13 is ment to do  Undecided
but i would have thought that if the dash is fuse 13 then the aux fan would be a diffrent fuse normally(unless someone modified the wiring)
try disconecting the fan ,do you still have the big thermo viscus fan fitted ?

Unfortunately, fuse 13 (on line 567 in the Haynes diagram Carlton models from 93) feeds more things than you can shake a stick at Sad

If you look at line 567 you will see at the top F13 with a block of numbers under it itemising the other line numbers that it feeds.

Is your dash digital or analog ?

turn off rear screan heater, radio, interior lights, heated seats
replace fuse
bring things back on till it blows
suspect last one turned on  Undecided

If it's an analog dash, it may be significant that it also feeds the voltage regulator for the engine temperature and fuel gauge.

It's possible that if that is blown short circuit, it's the cause of the problem Sad

I've always been amazed that they last as long as they have Shocked their specification is barely adequate!

Its a 1990 auto without aircon.
Most of the things people have listed don't work, like rear heated screen etc.
No radio fitted either.Interior light was giving trouble a few weeks ago - staying on.
If I put a fuse in , I can hear a relay click, over on the passenger side somewhere.
Weather has been to bad to crawl around looking for faults, and garage is only half built!!
Thanks for the help though people!!

If there's no radio fitted, are the radio wires taped up safe ?

Finally got a chance to look at the fault on my Gsi.
It was the courtesy light in the passenger footwell loose, which was swinging around and had shorted out to part of the body!!
Pheww - I can tell how fast I'm going and how much juice is in it now!!
Thanks for all the help!! Wink
