I wouldn't be moaning for £250! instead i'd be ripping it apart for spares lol

Fair play for restoring it though.

Like the way he gave you half of another gsi in spares lol

Don't touch a power boost valve, unless you like strange fuel pressures and various fuel-related issues.

That banging from the rear on pull away will be the subframe doughnuts.
They are easy enough to change and not too expensive.

Nowt wrong with adjustable fuel regs I've had one on mine for years and it's never given any grief. Seems to go well at track days etc. Looks very savable but that crack in the rear wheel arch looks like it could be hiding all mother of sins. As for the diff it could be worn plates resulting in a open diff or somebody's changed it. If you go looking for a LSD give it a very good check over they don't like being stood without the oil being swooshed around inside. All the brakes and suspension parts are readily available but you may struggle with the rad. Can you look and see if the oil cooler is in front of the rad or to the side of it. If it's to the side then your gonna really struggle to get a rad. Keep us posted love to see this one (or any one for that matter) saved.

Bargain

and easily worth saving.

Well done.

Dont touch the wheelarches unless you are ready for some metal surgery would be my only tip.

I bought a similarly neglected car last year and did the work, including severe wheelarch surgery (they were much worse than yours) and now its my daily driver and I love it.

Well bought! Looks like it's been waxoiled and sometime in the past judging by the holes/bungs in the rear wheel arch panels, not that it seems to have done alot of good.

Neither did one of mine till I changed the oil for proper LSD stuff and now it has.

That wont work for all non working diffs though, I just guessed that it might have been filled with ordinary diff oil and changing to the right stuff might help and it did.

I used Millers LSD oil as many ABS members have done.

To check if the diff works its no good just jacking up and turning a wheel mind, you need to test it by planting the accelerator in the carpet while one wheel is on a slippery surface, if you just about stay still its not working, if you accelerate away it is working.

The diff needs torque to push the friction plates together I believe so slip is limited while under power when you need it and not while gently cruising when you dont need it.
