Derby

« on: January 13, 2011, 02:11:01 PM »

Hello, my name is Craig, I'm from Derby.  My cars are 1990 Carlton GSI 24v, and an Opel Monza GSE with a purchase of another Monza GSE very shortly.
I have often surfed around the Total Carlton site but never joined as I do not use the PC that much.

The Carlton was bought some 7 years ago primarily for its engine and bits to donate to the Monza, a modification that has never taken place, the Monza is now too original to modify (in my opinion) although it does need welding all the usual really bad bits are surprisingly good.

At the Carltons first MOT in my ownership it failed miserably, sills etc. Dejected and needing a towcar for holiday I bought an Omega Elite (bit a softy for GM 6's) with a view to repairing the Carlton later, a year went by and I eventually got round to starting the repair, the view was to just get it back on the road for another year, to say "at least I had done it"

5 MOT's later and its still going, all be it with a chassis rail and a front wheel well repair being completed, the other chassis rail and various floor pan repairs are pending subject to Mr MOT mans inspection.

The people who have in the past posted pictures of their repairs to chassis rails and the like were my inspiration to continue keeping this car on the road.......thanks.

My first post seems to ramble on a bit......hope thats OK

Welcome to the forum Smiley

Your so called 'rambling on' is very welcome; the posts from many are so terse that it is difficult to work out exactly what they are doing (we're a nosy lot when it comes to the Carlton and other cars that members have  Wink)

Expect some urging to put up pictures of your cars !!

Folks, sorry for the delay, a few more pics, and a bit more of what I like.

Do you think they won't park next to me on purpose?

I usually get out on the track a couple of times in a year, nothing serious, just a bit of fun, I've never seen another Carlton out with me, it gets a few odd looks.

I was lucky, the lower portions were good, all except for a 30mm square patch. Still got LH side to do, I keep getting away with advisories, I'll see what Mr MOT mans welding list looks like this year. Smiley

I was a bit slow on the up take - to be honest forum hello posts I struggle with - I find them a bit MEH - not trying to cause offence I just think best thing is bosh a thread up on your car(s) in members gallery and introduce yourself there - but then I'm a bit in yer face sometimes and appreciate people like to bed themselves in slowly

I did the "wham bam thank-you mam" approach as a first post on a german forum recently - it went OK (ish) Grin
