Hi all,
I know I am new - this is feeler thread really, the way my project is progressing I am possibly after a 3.0L 12v engine in the near future. Just wondering if anyone has one for sale? I suppose the later the model the better? (though I know little about them in reality)
I am based in the south (southampton) and due to the weight of these engines closer is much much better.
Thanks
Jason
edit: bumped as I can't decide whether to supercharge my 2.5 (if it is in good condition) or just run a 3.0 and achieve the same power more reliably (probably the best idea!) - if there is a 30ne in decent condition then that would probably sway me... thanks

Hi mate I've got a 3.0ne from my estate, nothing wrong with it just upgraded to a later goldtop. It's just sitting in my donor car that i pick spares off so no rush to get rid, got the loom and ecu for it too. In Kent just off the M2 so not far

what's the difference between the 30ne and the gold tops? (like I said, not very knowledgeable!)
cheers
Jason
edit: just searched, so gold tops just have a better head design... how much more power do they make supposing no cats?

Supposedly it makes around 180 without the cats, it also has the later Motronic ignition which is tuneable for more bhp

ah, so going for megasquirt fully mappable injection/ignition and running no cats then the difference between gold top or not is not so much really (anything over 180bhp will be a handful in a mk1 cav! )

Thanks for the reply, trouble is you've now got me wanting a gold top....
Anyone with a gold top kicking about in the south? (or possibly just the head and related gubbins like fuel rail)
Cheers
Jason

Good luck... there's about a dozen of us on the lookout for a gold top!

haha, are they really that rare? In which case I'll probably just get a normal one then could always cut the big valves into it... and give it a skim... I think enginestuff.co.uk sells both types of valves for the 30ne so it cant be hard to get that sorted Cheers Jason

Just a quick thread bump as I'm considering my options again... if anyone in hampshire has a 30ne in decent condition I would be pretty interested.
Thanks
Jason

I know where there is a 3.0 24v lump. Its from a 1992 J reg. The car originally had cats, but when the exhaust was changed for a stainless item, the cats were removed.
The top end of the engine had a rebuild when the head was off. Head gasket went, so the top end got a refresh. I can find out the mileage if you're interested.
Okay, I know I'm nowhere near you, unless Pontypridd has moved, but I'm sure we could sort something.

Thanks for the reply! Sadly I am after a 12v as it would be to replace the 2.5L 12v already in my mk1 cavalier. I don't fancy a 24v due to the extra work required for me to fit it, I also really love the character of the 12v engine (the power difference will also be negligible after a little work and the megasquirt ecu) - and its inherent bomb-proof nature Thanks again Jason

just as a side thought, if I'm going down the 3.0L route then that would leave my supercharger going begging... could swap the eaton M90 (including jag throttle body and bypass) for a decent 3.0l 12v engine?
