My blower ain't working so the warm air dribbles out the vents and doesn't clear windscreen. I want to test the motor but not sure how. There's a five point plug with green, blue, grey, red and brown wires. Could I just run a couple of wires from the battery? If so, to which points. As you might have guessed I know SFA about electrics.

Cheers

Brown is earth.
One wire from the battery + to the red should give you full speed. If you get nothing, try also running a wire to brown from battery -. If you still get nothing then I would say it's a duff motor.

Sorry, I got it wrong, it's yellow not red. Does that change things?

Yellow should be full speed.
Good point Chris - didnt you say you had a spare aircon type resistor pack?  Still need one for mine!

If it's the resistor pack you should be able to bypass the large resistor to get it working IIRC.

there are 2 wires under the resistor pack that go direct to the motor power these direct and that will tell you if the motor is goosed

if its a non aircon i can do an exchange on the one you have

when you say ' power these direct' do you mean put a positive on one and a negative on the other or join them up or what Huh

Batt -  to the brown wire / Batt + to the thick green wire (Note to Murph, I think you'll find yellow is speed 3 / thin green is speed 2 & blue is speed 1 (slowest) Merry Christmas from the Von Opel residence.

Of course, it doesn't help that Haynes use reduced reproductions of the GM schematics, so you get a tiny GE for gelb (yellow) & an equally tiny GR for grün (green). Difficult to differentiate sometimes without a magnifying glass.

Looks like you need a new motor then.
Unfortunately I havent come across another car with the same setup as yet so it'll have to be a Carlton one.

Just a quick note to add my failed heater blower experience from today.

It failed of course, a couple of wires confirmed that the motor could run on its own but not via the resistor pack.

I changed the resistor pack without removing anything extra from the car and now its sorted.
All I did was pulled off the rubber seal that allows you to lift up the flimsy plastic cowl (dont know correct name) and worked through the gap. It can be done in a few minutes.

I thought it might be worth mentioning that the whole lot doesnt have to come out and the wipers dont have to come off etc as thats how Ive done it before.
