Just finished striping this 12v - I have never seen a carlton as rotten as this and that's saying something.

Just some glass and interior to remove and then it cube time.

Remember this is a preface - So Grey, not Black.

Your have to talk to Carlton_Mad - Front seats are spoken for - Rear's are OK, but in need of a feed.

This is the second time I've broken a GSI, they have all been Manuals (Not interested in Auto's).

I don't like doing it and I only break those, which are beyond repair.

Better to Buy direct, rather then pay the Breakers.

This one has already gone though a restoration of sorts.

·   Both sills have been replaced and are rot again.
·   Both front rails have been repaired and blown again.
·   The top of one rail does not exist !!
·   Both rear rails have been repaired and blown again.
·   Both rear arches (Inner and outer) are rot as.
·   The floor has been wielded both back and front – Very bird shitty wields.
·   All doors have gone on the bottom

I don’t like doing second time around restorations – First time round is bad enough.

Some times you have to say, lets keep the others on the road with this one !

I.E. Two good rear springs came off this one - These are rocking horse pow.

JM2PW - As sean would say  Grin

If you have the time and space a donor car is an ideal solution for those hard to find spares Smiley especially as they're getting thin on the ground in the scrappys now Undecided

The problem with Carltons is they're still in the MOT repair stage of their life rather than a proper restoration. Plating over rusted areas seems to be the order of the day, which lasts for another couple of years but soon rots through.

Why are the rear springs so rare are they not the same as the 24v gsi?

DVLA have put a stop to this now or at least made it very difficult.

The hoop's you need to jump throw are rediculious and costly.

I wish I'd done that to an old 1275GT I broke years ago.

The trouble with that is, we'll never going to know how many are really left.

Up rated, so the back end doesn't drag along the road when accelerating with the 3.0 torque.

In that case surely the 24v springs would be better because of the extra power Huh

Maybe not. Everybody knows that 12v's are for racing and 24v's are for cruising :p
