Right....    i think im gonna sell it... The misses is gettin a car and im gonna be named driver.  I cant justify owning a car i dont use soooo

The details

Model: carlton diamond estate,  2.0 8V

Year: 1993

Mileage:150,000 ish (i use it so may go up )

Tax: jan 2011

MOT: WILL HAVE FRESH 12MONTHS IN NEXT WEEK

Location: EASTLEIGH HANTS

Price:  £850  (OWES ME ALOT MORE Sad )

Right the time has come...  here she is...

Its a 93 model diamond estate..

Owned by one family for most of its life and looked after by them.. (loads of reciepts)

Its got a great 2.0 8 valve engine,   pulls like a train and the gearbox is great too.
Diff not too whiney...  Cant hear it at all with the load cover in..

Comes with vauxhall dog guard and load cover in rear

Full leather interior with working heated front seats..

all electrics work as they should.

In the last month its had..

* Full very expensive service inc
   - oil
   -plugs
  -leads
   - dizzy cap and rotor
   -oil filter
  - rocker cover gasket and breather gasket to stop oil leak

*rear brakes inc
 -new discs
 - pads
 -shoes
 -handbrake cables

*front drop links and tierods

Before i bought it , it had had a new airflow meter fitted, (to cure a problem that was fixed by chaging another part) and also a new rad and thermostat.

Its been used so obviously its got some scratches But most a bit of t cut and things could take out....
Theres one dent at the bottom of the passenger door which is sorta annoying... and some small ones in the rear passenger door.  But ok when its clean...

Also the speedo is a bit tempramental.  Most of the time it works fine but othertimes it wont kick in till 40mph.  once its got to 40mph once itll go up and down no problems....

Comes with a spare airflow meter ,  handbrake cable,  and headlights.

handbrake all fixed now...  Works perfect... No more putting it in gear while parked lol..

Ill regret it no doubt..  I wont even have anything to tow my boat with.  But the reality of it is my girlfriend needs to drive to get to work.  And i dont  And with a lack of space as it is , and parking permits that cost the earth... (if you can find a space)   Something has to give Sad

Shes "buying"  a KA i think lol..   Although she just said this morning she likes those toyota thingys.. haha

I could be interested in the Carlton diamond estate.
You are quite a distance from me, Derbyshire, but maybe we can overcome this. I am just registering my interest at the moment before I decide what to do.

Hi supercub,
It sounds like you've been given good advice. You know the saying 'the better the devil you know than the devil you don't'. I would say that the Carlton is one of the better motors around, if you consider reliability, costs etc. I've been driving since forever it seems and this car I rate very highly. Over the last 19 years I've only owned Carltons. At the moment I'm driving a J reg 2.0l CDX, which I've had for 8 years and before that I had an E reg 2.0l CDI for 13 years.

Although I've never driven horse and carts I have driven many other forms of transport: lorries, cranes, tractor\trailer, a bus and many types of cars. I even salvaged a Vauxhall Velox (my age is showing now) from a scrapyard for a fiver or was it a tenner and kept it going for about 5 years or was it 7 (Memory is going now). Often driving 6" nails in between the half shafts and the hubs when the drive was lost. So think long and hard before you give yours up, there aren't many good Carltons around.

Good news.....   IM KEEPING IT Grin

reasons are:

*my vodc sticker and keyring turned up this morning and i need somthing to put the sticker on  Cheesy

*it just passed the mot with only an advisory for handbrake travel being a bit too much (new cables) which makes me pretty chuffed with it

*ive told the misses shes gonna have to get  a parking permit and park outside  Cheesy  Grin  as any car she chooses wont tow my boat  Wink

Glad you're keeping the Carlton Supercub, I'm not sure that I would be able to buy it. I just paid out £700 to feed the tin worm on my CDX but i believe its worth it.Thought I'd done the wrong thing when it was knocking after it came back from the garage. The idiot had not tightened one of the wheels.

After owning this car for so long I still look at it and think to myself 'jack you're still an handsome old devil'. Can't say that about many other cars.

In reply to Jimmy the two carltons  I've had over the last 19 years overlapped for 2 years, when I parked the CDX and just ran the CDI.

Anyway Supercub glad to see that you've put your foot down with a firm hand. Women come and go, it will be more difficult getting another Carlton. Cheesy Roll Eyes Grin
