Right - been offered a 2 owner  2.0 GL Carlton in frost blue (might be haze but never mind) I'm sick of driving the wifes Polo in the winter 80K on the clock all MOT's etc etc new boots all round and a new vauxhall exhaust - I won't tell you the price but it's buttons ages since I had a four pot Carlton or anything - I loved the 1.8 li I used to own so did the wife.....

Will I be dissapointed or not? more to the point will she kill me or not?

Polo or Carlton, hmmmm tough one there!

Go for the Carlton, as the advert says, a Carlton is for life and not just for Christmas. Tell the missus a sob storey (hold Vicks Vapour rub under eyes for the tear effect)  and I'm sure she will be allright.

Think of it from a girly point, the bigger the car, the more shopping you can put in it Grin

Get a grip, Ian - it's got to be the Carlton!!

Then when she's not looking, slip a sixer in.

Let me rephrase that.

Give it a bigger one.

No, I'll try again.

I'll stop digging.............. Grin Grin

Hmmm - nice reply Pete!!!!

Forgot to say it's got a years MOT and 6 mths tax and bloody good condition none of the usual rot in places - I just have this horrible feeling that if I get it I'll be sooooooooo disapointed with the way it goes having been used to a LC, Senny 24V or Monza......

Mind you after the Polo 1.4 8V it will seem like a rocket ship!!!

dpends how you drive it ian,
if you drive it as a daily car which is to get you from a-b then you wont be,
its gonna be slower than the polo or anything else you own,

Ian, you're asking the wrong question to the wrong bunch of guys here.

You ask the same question in a Polo forum and guess what they'll say. "What you want one of those pipe and slippers barges for???"

A carlton 2.0 aint that bad mate - OK compared to an LC it's slow as shit, but my old 2.0 CDX is still going strong and its fairly fast and well comfy too.

It will help you if you take it to mimms tho, boot space n'all.

Plus if you buy it, you may want to upgrade to the senator leather seats I have sitting here doing nowt that are in very good condition and going very cheap! Wink Wink

On the other hand tho, it is only a GL and I think you'll get pissed off with not having bits that your other cars have - ie cruise, leather, 6-potter, noisy exhaust etc.

PS - what's wrong with the polo - I thought you loved it?

I now own a Frost blue 88K miles L reg 2.0 GLi manual 5 Speed with the Blaupunkt combo CD /cassette Radio

damn bloody nice car

- It's got a manual roof
- hasn't got pencil beams!
- It's arse is up in the air
- Has steels and trms

4 brand new tyres and a brand new exhaust 12 mths MOT and 1 mths tax

Need a good clean but I could only find two rust spots on the whole car and all for the pricely sum of £XXX

Once I've got it home (later this week I'll take some pics and post em up)

Bugger - I'm trying my best to get rid of these seats and wheels but nobody wants them!

Could ebay them but it would mean fetching the seat set down from a bloody high shelf and taking pics, then putting them back up again...

Right picked it up today - it's actually on loan to another club member - christmas wasn't kind to him MOT and Car wise and he's a good mate so I've lent it to him

His GSi clutch has gone in a big way and his back up car a Senator 12V failed the MOT and he has a lot on his plate at the mo so this should kep him mobile for a few weeks till he gets one or the other sorted out

Engine Bay

One side/front

Same side

Other side/front

I’m no David Baily!!!

It drives very well - very smooth and quiet and handles quite well to even if it is jacked up at the rear!!!

Former - it's a jacked up rear rather than a dropped front - ride is superb not a single knock rattle or bump - although when I booted it I did hear a single one of knock which sounded so familiar it makes me think I need to stick a set of donuts in it!!!
