I need to get some for mine. It is the best stuff by far...

I actually did do away with the chrome trim on the door strips and rear arch trim and colour coded the bumpers but left the chrome on there. I filled over the chrome and smoothed it out. it looks ok but is a little odd where the chromeless rear arch trim meet the chrome of the bumper. I might paint the rear quater chrome and just leave the chrome bit in on the back of the boot like on the new vauxhalls.

It looks really good now you have blacked it up with the oil though and you have a wiper-less front chrome trim! I really want one of those! Hard to come by though. I have found them on cars breaking on ebay but the yard owner was whining about taking it off...  Undecided

It certainly is!! i havent done mine since Billing and it still looks good. Got to do the other motor now, down to B&Q i think for the best £3.50 bargain you can get;)

Those wiperbladeless chrome trim are off the old voyager's i think, and they are quite rare in it self  Undecided

Oh right Voyager? hmm...

I though you just got them off a Carlton 'Club' edition?

Anyway they seem quite well sort after, I could do with one though especially as I nearly broke mine the other day with a mopping accident.

Havnt tried the linseed oil way yet.   With my vws when i had em , The bumpers were allways gray and faded when i bought the old things  , I used to use a blowtorch on them.  It rolled the plastic over and made it fresh shiny black again....

As long as i was carefull and just used a low heat it would do it and then you move on to the next bit.....

Ive yet to try it on any vauxhall plastics as im not sure how they take to it... But i might give it a go if i get a bit of trim from the scrapper....

Heres a pic of starting on it (first pass allways looks a bit blotchy...)

Boiled linseed will bring up same results if not better, and all you need is an old sock Wink

But from what ive gathered ,  Linseed oil isnt permanent and needs doing once or twice a year.  Whereas my green polo (in one of the pics above) i owned for 2 years and it never faded....   Im pretty sure it makes em as new..

Maybe so... but there is little or no effort involved and virtually no time at all, so it's worth the very minimal effort a couple of times a year.

The heat gun method works well but takes more time and effort to accomplish.

Did mine with Linsedd oil recently and I won't be using anything else - absolutely brilliant.

on a side note, love the 'booted' polo, that was my first car - lovely little runner, had a great time in it. Grin

cheers mate , Im starting to miss it a bit... I sold three polos and replaced them with the diamond..

one mk1 77 polo,  the C reg "loon" you see in the pics and the green "bready" as well...  they did me bloody well... I Think at last count i had 16 polos (so far) Wink But atm i doubt ill have another.. Been there and done that...

As for the blowtorch approach.  The pic of me part way thru the front bumper, was about 2 mins after i got home from wales with that car (bought it off ebay)  Took very little effort and in my belief a lot less time than it would take preparing/boiling linseed oil and scrubbing it in.... (imho)  Ill have to give it a go on the carlton tho...  might not even work on vauxhall plastic Cheesy

No preparing needed, just open the lid, soak it on a cloth and rub it on Wink people get confused by the name 'boiled' thinking they need to heat it up or something, but that aint the case, lol

ahh.. i just assumed it was boiled litterally as we have some linseed oil here from my grandad (ex carpenter) and it doesnt say boiled on it...    Guess theres different types then haha..

Guess im gonna have to give the blowtorch a go on the carlton.. See how permanent it is..  The vw guys keep doing the linseed oil way and some try peanut butter too..  But have to do it a couple of times a year to keep it black.   Ive only ever had to do each car once with the blowtorch and its stays black  Huh
