Hello!

I have a set of 180/75 R14 winter tyres. Is it possible to fit a set of 175/80 in the same rims? What advantages/disadvantages would there be?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, Jimmy.

It's actually 175/80. Are they bigger than the 180/75? My car is a Omega A Caravan (Carlton Estate).

when you look at ya motor from the front or rear, the 175 is the width, from the side, the 75 or 80 is the profile depth, with an estate, i woud go for a set of 195's width with a 65 or 70 profile, better stability for the estate Wink HTH

the bigger the number the bigger the width and depth Wink

I heard that snow tyres should be narrower so they donīt get stuck so easily... Is this true?

Grin Well, here in the North of Finland we still had snow yesterday  Cheesy

Thanks for your suggestions and insights, Jimmy. You were very helpful.

I reckon this is the best time to buy a good set of  winter tyres and get ready for the next glaciar era here up North.

And still the old Carlton survives Winter after Winter, and if the battery is juicy, it starts even at Minus 30 something.. I really love it.

Coopers are the best winter tyre ere, nice deep tread on them, had some on my van, never got stuck in wet muddy fields, and was fine in the snow Wink
