What is it about Carltons'?

« on: December 06, 2005, 09:24:16 PM »

Can anyone advise how best to replace the gear knob on my 2.0i Carlton 5 speed manual?

I have consulted the "Haynes Book of Confusion" where it makes reference to a hacksaw as part of the removal process. At this point I swiftly put down the book and posted on here.

Hope someone can help.

Er... Murph's post is excellent - but it's just the gear knob I'm trying to replace and not the whole assembly.  Huh

Thanks for the thought though. Grin

You can sometimes get them off without wrecking them - good luck finding one in the scrappy though!  Undecided

Thanks for the help guys.

The gear knob on my car has actually separated itself from the alloy centre boss and it's that boss that needs to be cut off I assume.

Can anyone recommend a replacement other than the Std Carlton one?

Peferably one that doesn't play tunes and include 14 flashing LED's - Lol!

Cheers

Hi. I new here but I just thought I'd say that after about 4 months of tryn to replace the gear knob on me 2.0ltr carlton I've finally done it this morning. The rubber top bit kept coming of in my hand and was really fed up with it. What I found is to get the top alu bit hot with a good hair dryer and yank the top straight up very hard with some good grips. Hey presto! Off it comes. Hope this helps someone.

Many thanks - hadn't considered that approach.  Smiley
