He was logged in yesterday so I'd guess he's just being quiet at present.

Hi guys, I'm still here, usually look in on a daily basis for any electrical problems. I went to see the Lotus Omega I've bought a few weeks ago (it's in a place called Heidelberg). I'm hoping to drive it back to the UK in October. The fuel pump is U/S and so are the tyres so the plan is to fix it where it is. (Will a set of normal wheels fit?).
If this doesn't work out I'm going to trailer it back, for this, & as a daily driver, I've bought an R-reg Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited which is good fun (4 litre straight 6, all iron with pushrod OHV plus highly sophisticated live axle front & rear!) It does NOT go round corners like a Gsi but is ideal for towing.
Will keep you updated on progress.

I think later 24V wheels will.

Fronts won't fit unless there 17" rims. If you get stuck give us a shout I have a spare set of LC wheels with legal tyres on. Which we can sort out loan or something.

Not all 17inch wheels will fit an LC/LO either Dave! Sad The current multi-spoke 17's on my GSi and my 17inch BBS RS's don't fit a Lotus as they get caught up on the front AP Racing Calipers. When we were restoring Lotus's at my old works, we even tried a set of 17inch TSW Evo R's and these also got caught up on the cars front brakes!

However, My ATS 18's (Evo 500 style) do fit Lotus's but these are really, REALLY close to the front Calipers too and a bit af spirited driving could cause the AP Racing Calipers to touch as they heat up....

It looks to me as if von-opel knows exactly what he's doing Wink

The best plan is to either take some tyres for the existing rims, or get some in Heidelberg Smiley

Good idea Mr Melinx, thanks for your replies, it seems the best bet is to get some tyres fitted over there, to this end I've phoned my friend in Heidelberg & he put me on to www.reifendirekt.de so I'll probably order the tyres from them for local fitting. Seems like the best bet.

Hmmm....Why do you say that Pete? Huh Huh Huh

I've found them to be excellent for feel and stopping power on all the LC's and the one LO I've personally driven. The AP Racing Brakes are much better for stopping than the OE Girling/ATE Collette Calipers! The only downside I encountered is that they can squeal quite a bit until warm but I could easily live with that as they were no different in this respect to the Brembo's on my best mates Lancer Evo 6 RSX! Something to do with no dust seals and the pistons rust up.

That may be true about AP's but Collette sliding Calipers are not exactly perfect either Martin.

Exactly.

From experience, race cars get their brakes overhauled after every meeting - sometimes between races at the same meeting.
Servicing the calipers is kinda first and foremost on the list, therfore dust ingress is not really an issue.
Not many road cars have this luxury.
Also, stainless pistons my arse! Three types of stainless steel (that I'm familiar with) - Autenstic, Martensitic and Ferritic.
So I'm told, the cheap, crappy ferritic stuff (that no-one in their right mind would touch with a 6' pole), was used on these pistons and guess what?
They can actually rust.
Yep, as the name infers, Ferritic contains alot of ordinary iron........ and not much nickel.
As we used to say in the team - "Bad prep!" - on Lotus' behalf.

Pete. There not even stainless. They were very very thinny chrome plated. They do have a dust ring but unlike the majority of calipers they don't have a piston rubber boot. They are more like bike calipers in that respect. As said there great when they are working right but to keep em working right they should be stripped and cleaned at least every 12 months.

The weather's been so bad lately & I've been so busy with other things, I decided to make it a summer trip, I've also been offered the use of a Ford Cargo car transporter in June, which is a better bet (and cheaper) than having a tow bar fitted to my Jeep Grand Cherokee & using a trailer. So.....roll on summer.

What happened was that I ran out of money, so ended up selling it on to a German guy for around €7k. After I sold the Carlton / Omega A, I bought what you might call the spiritual successor to the Gsi / Omega 3000.........the Omega B MV6 24v. Nice motor for 800 sovs.....Lots of goodies: Irmscher suspension/exhaust etc. Going well.

Shame about my old H281DMX throwing a rod. See other post.
