Sorry mate, they're not. The Mcd10 is a 10 disc and the newer HU's only recognise 6. Changer cable is different too. I had to buy a new HU and changer because of same problem.
HTH.

Thanks Mezzy, let me know about that one.
Mine works fine & the back lights work, but part of the LCD itself has separated in the centre.

Right.
Front has been tested and lights up and displays ok apart from some black mark in bottom right corner. And Number 6 button doesnt work (probably needs a clean). All other functions are ok. Offers?
Back unit blown but can be used as spares.

Hi Mezzy!
Yes, it sounds as if it's a bit better than the one I've got.
That black mark in the corner is bad news. That's the start of the LCD separation that mine has got. On mine it has gone from the right of the display to about three quarters of the way across to the left, just leaving a small bit at the left hand side still working.
Just to confirm, it is a Grundig 4870 RDS & it's just the front pop out removable front piece that I require.
I'd take a chance at a fiver all in for just the front removable panel & see how long it lasted.
Anyway, Thanks for your help, let us know.
............shame about that petrol tank not being an estate one, I thought it wasn't from what you said at the start. The saloon I've just bought has got a new tank fitted & I've got another nearly new tank from a car I broke, as a spare. I could do with finding a good/new tank for my estate - I've repaired it once, but it's not good & is now on borrowed time. I bought that Carlton Saloon so that I could take the Estate off the road for a bit, & do one or two jobs such as change the tank etc. I can get a new one for about £85 from Vauxcare in Lincoln if I really have to. The saloon is VERY nice, but the estate is so VERY useful.

The estate tank also fits the Monza so they are quite hard to prise from peoples hands!!!!

Hi HMK. Front of the stereo has been like that for past two years, so if your happy with that mate, then give us a mail with an address and i'll post off to you asap. Shame the tank isnt the one you need (stupid of me not to do my homework first). I like estates myself. Do up quite nicely and you can get more room in the back (Nudge, Nudge, , ). Thought about getting one myself but got the Geesa instead.

Thanks to Mezzy for the Grundig front - it arrived today safe & sound.
Bstardchild, interesting that about the Monza - no need really to prize them away from people, just bought a brand new one on-line for £52 plus postage etc. It arrived today just after the radio front from Mezzy & I only ordered it on Tuesday - & it's Christmas week, too!!
Good result all round, I think!

Another good result Just spent a happy hour (or so) dismantling both of the front pop out panels & have now made one good one out of the two. As Mezzy said, number 6 button didn't work, so I swapped all the buttons over from my original panel onto the replacement one. Got it all back together & found that although all the functions worked perfectly, there was now no back light on the panel at all. There are three bulbs in the pop out, so it seemed unlikely that all three would have gone, so I suspected a broken wire (as a couple had come off & had to be re-soldered back on while I was working on it) or a break in the printed board. On taking the unit apart again, I discovered that the three bulbs are connected in series (like Christmas tree lights) so that if one goes, then they all go out. Infact the middle one of the three bulbs had gone (tested them with a multi-meter). Having got three good bulbs spare in the original unit, I soldered a replacement wire ended bulb from this unit into the replacement unit & everything now works fine These bulbs are obviously not 12 volt ones. They must be either 4 volt, 4.5 volt or 6 volt bulbs. I suspect that they are 4.5 volt which in series would add up to 13.5 volts. They could however, be 6 volt, making 18 volt in total, thus being under-run slightly on the 13-16ish volt car supply.......................................... Does anyone know for certain what voltage these bulbs actually are?

Cheers for that HMK. You actually got the best of the two. The one i've still got has four blown nipples, Had no illumination (Turned out to be a dodgey solder on one of bulbs, works fine now) but display is ok. I worked it out to be 4.5v for each as six volts per bulb would make the bulbs light more dim and your right, one goes, they all go. Glad it got there safe m8

Hi Jon,
It was 'Buypartsby' which is their on-line name, trading as 'Sutton Auto Factors'. You need to buy on-line as the price is higher if you order over the phone. The total price with the postage & VAT came to about £68. At that sort of price it's not worth messing about with a second hand one!
