Dont let oversteer stay a stranger.....

« on: November 30, 2005, 05:39:30 PM »

I 've just recieved the v5c for my recently aquired gsi and it set me thinking about how many Vauxhalls I've owned over the last 40 years! So i've made a list-
PA Cresta X 2              HB Viva GT-(which I rallied without much success-too much understeer!)
PB Cresta                    HC Firenza
PC Cresta x 2               FB VX490                                   Astra GTE MK 1
PC Viscount                 FC Ventora                                 Astra GTE MK 2 X 2
                                 FE Ventora                                  Cav SRI  MK2+MK3
FE VX490 - (unrefined and thisty)
Carlton MK 1 AUTO (supurb car)                                      Opel Manta GTE X 2(top sideways machine)
Carlton MK I Facelift

And my current Astra mk 4 cdx auto estate plus the GSI of course.

Plus lots of Fords,Triumphs,Rovers and loads of Yanks-about 150 cars in total I suppose .

Anybody beat this selection?

Didn't take car test til I was 25, always had bikes.

Only ever had 2 non Vauxhalls, a 1.3 Mk2 Escort (first car, bag o sh*te) (sold on)
Then i bought an 1.5 Austin Allegro and wrote it off with 12 weeks, after that it's been Vauhalls all the way

V reg 1.3 Chevette (written off)
3 X Mk2 1.6 Cavaliers (all scrapped)
5 X 2.0 Carltons (Gl, CD, CDX Saloons & 2 x GL Estates) (CD & CDX spectacularly written off!) (1 Estate sold, 1 scrapped) (1994 GL current)

So it's 11 cars in 20 years for me  Cheesy

Bikes (in order of purchase)

1973 Yamaha FS1E (Purchased 1977, Sold 1978)
1974 Yamaha RD200 (Purchased 1978, Sold 1980)
1976 Honda CB125J (Purchased 1980, Sold 1982)
1981 Honda CM200T (Purchased 1982, Sold 1984)
1973 Honda CB350K4 (Purchased 1982, Sold 1986)
1978 Suzuki GS400T (Purchased 1984, Written Off after 2 weeks, car pulled out on me!)
1982 Honda CX500EC (Purchased 1985, Stolen 1987)
1983 Honda GL500 (Purchased 1987, Sold 1988)
1978 Honda CX500Z (Purchased 1987, Sold 1990)
1981 Suzuki GS1000G (Purchased 1988, still got it after 17 years!)
1982 Honda CX500EC (Purchased 1994 (written off 97 yards from garage after buying it (yes I measured it!),Restored then Stolen 1997)
1984 Suzuki GS400T (Purchased 1997, Written Off after 2 months, car pulled out on me!)
1985 Suzuki GS250T (Purchased 1998, Sold 2000) (was bought to do a project with the 400, sold the pair)
1979 Honda CX500Z (Purchased 2005, Selling 2006!) Resurrected!
1980 Honda CX500Z (Purchased 2005, Selling 2006!) Resurrected!

So 15 bikes in 28 years, similar average to the cars, spooky, Looks like I'm a creature of habit LOL!

Scatmancraig.. that Carlton 2.0 with the 12 valve engine fitted, did you get that from ebay? Saw one like that on there, the owner had just driven it all over Europe. Quite fancied that myself. Often see your username on there when I'm looking at the Senators.
I really can't remember all the cars I've owned, but as far as Vauxhalls go:
Victor 101 estate - with a piece of garden hose on the breather to take the fumes out underneath the car.
Viva HA van
Viva HB
Opel Senator 3.0 CDE
Opel Senator 3.0 S
3 x Vauxhall Royale, never had a coupe though, I'd still like one now.
Opel Monza.
Vauxhall Senator 'A'
4 x Vauxhall Senator 'B' - my 4th is in the front garden now, slowly being sorted.
Carlton Mk 1 2.0 estate
Carlton 3.0 CDX Estate.
Plus many Mk 2 Granadas, Mk 1 Granada, Jaguar XJ6 Series 3, an FSO, Sierra 2.0. Sierra XR 4X4 2.9, 2 X Rover 820 - good cars, BMW 3.3 LiA, BMW e23 735i executive, BMW e28 520i Auto lux - still got that one, Datsun Laurel, 3 x Rover P6, Rover SD1 3.5 Vanden Plas. There's more, but I just can't remember them all. Oh, and my wife's currently flitting about in a BMW e32 730i SE. Just remembered - 3 x Granada Mk 3, 1x 2.8 and 2 x 2.0 litre, Reliant Scimitar GTE - gave that to Practical Classics magazine, it turned out to be a really good old motor. A Mk 1 mini. Austin A55 Cambridge, 2 x Mk1 Triumph 2000, 3x Mk 2 Triumph 2000, Mk 1 Cortina, Mk 2 Cortina, 2 X Mk 3 Cortina, Triumph 1500, Triumph Spitfire, Austin 1100, Hillman Minx, Singer Vogue,
I was offered a Mustang once - going way back now - it looked like the one Steve Mc Queen used in 'Bullit', but it needed some work and I turned it down - twat. There's still more, I'll add 'em when I think of 'em. Mk 1 Asra GTE, Mk 2 Cavalier SRi, Mk 2 Cavalier 2.0 CD Auto.

That's the one!!!  I wasn't the high bidder, the auction ended when i was at work so the following week i went out & bought a cheap 12v Senator instead!!  Then the bloke whop won the auction backed out so i got it on a 2nd chance offer.  To be honest it was better than i was expecting for £125, interior needs some work, i'll be taking the GSi seats out & replacing them with the black leather from this Senator i've just bought.  Body is fairly good for a 200k Carlton, only rot i've found is on the passenger side inner wing, & i only found this when i was re-attaching the plastic wheelarch liner!!

I've parked it up for now, the 12v Senator only has a couple of months test so i'm using it & abusing it till it runs out. then it will be a donor car for upgrading the Carlton interior.  I might have a go at fitting the head from this car into the Carlton (bigger valves on the late 12v Senators), along with the later motronic injection system.

But all of this can wait till i've sorted my 24v Senator, completely replacing most of the front suspension at the moment!!!!

If you like PM me your ebay id, then if i see your name on anything i'll leave it well alone!!!
