if it's not a GSi, then it'll be a torsion bar - and bloody tricky to replace by all accounts.
Best bet is to get a gas strut from a GSi - maybe a later Omega will fit - and then you only have one hole to drill and a couple of M8x25 bolts or setscrews to fit.
It is really only there to assist the torsoion bar on the GSi due to the extra weight of the spoiler, but assuming yours isn't a GSi, then I think it would be man enough to hold the bootlid open.

i recall seing a torsion bar on a gsi as well as a gas strut, no need to drill holes either as there is all ready a lug on the bracket and holes ready for this gas strut, then all you need is the m8 25 bolts as Pedro suggested

2 of my GSIs have had snapped torsion bars, the current one only snapped a few weeks back.
We heard a huge bang and I slammed the anchors on thinking either something had hit the roof or something was badly wrong with the caravan on the back, I couldnt find a problem.
When we got home sure enough a heavy boot lid.
Easy enough to change and I had a spare, when I say easy its still a bit dangerous, theres a lot of stored energy in them there springs.
