Cubby holes are like a new wife, you have to give it a good smack to fit in to place.

surely not, the 'carpet bit goes to the bottom no?

On mine I tried to fit the one from the Cdx ........fitted fine there. No go in the dippy.
Got another one, same problem.
There are two locating clips at the top and the surround on the dippy is just too wide, I am sure it can be sorted with a fettle.

That is a beauty! Personally, I believe the auto diplomat 2.6s are the ultimate incarnation of the Carlton. Lazy, comfy and smooth. You seem to be able to cruise ridiculously fast but it never seems quick to get there.  Its my chosen variant (hence user name). However, I know this opinion is not the only one. Then, that's the beauty of the Carlton; there's one for everybody.

Looking forward to seeing it at Billing (if you can go!)

Very nice, and gotta worth twice what you paid for it - easily!
That silver stripey going on - is that covering up spoiler holes in the bootlid? IIRC, some (if not all?) Diplomats had GSi type rear spoilers, didn't they?

The bonnet badge on mine was 'manky' and the inner became loose.

I found that the boot badge inner from an old Astra fitted perfectly and didn't have the stone damage that a bonnet badge gets.

A bit of glue and it looks brand new Wink

Well this week; fitted new anti roll bar D bushes and wahay no more clunks or rattles, absolute heaven, can't believe 2 little bushes that cost £6.47 from vauxhall could make so much noise

Also investigating oil leak which was on bottom of bell housing and sump, decided it was coming from rocker cover, looks a nasty job to replace so thought I'd check bolts first and the 4 rearmost bolts were very loose, had to remove bracket on side of engine holding throttle body up, and then I got at all 4 with a wobley socket and tightened them up, will have another look in about a week  Wink

replaced both rear tyres(curtosy of Carltonator) cleaned a couple of rear brake pipes up, mot next month  Smiley

And thats about it  Smiley

Today Dippy 2 went to my auto electrician:-
a/ to see why the engine management light keeps coming on, only happened since the run to Billing and back, came on once there and three times home, now comes on 7 or 8 times during the 9 mile trip to work and back.
Diagnoses:- Lambda sensor
b/ check out air con, not working when I bought it, got a faint idea I had to let the gas out when I repaired it some time ago.
Diagnosis;- just needed gasing up, so thats done and all nice and chilled in there now Cool Cool Cool
Got a question about the fan, should it run when A/C is on or is it engine temp dependant?
Just got the lambda sensor to get

If memory serves me right it should be temp dependant (sorry for shoving my nose in here  Wink), my old dippy had the electric fan connected to a sensor at the bottom of the main radiator (need to get under the front end to see it properly), as my aircon never worked I can't say for sure if it should run with the aircon but I can't imagine why it should if it is getting its feed from the rad sensor
