I occasionally get the ABS light flashing on for a second, which I ignored at first. I should sort it really though as very occasionally you can feel the ABS kick in under normal breraking conditions. Would it be something simple like one of the sensors? Or maybe the gunk that the MOT centre smeared on the toothed wheel on either side of the diff?

Firstly I should emphasise that I'm very happy to have no trouble shooting experience with the ABS.

I can't imagine why they should have smeared gunk on the toothed wheel, but unless it has been put on that thick that it has fouled the sensor causing mechanical damage, it should have no effect !

Since the sensor works magnetically, you could totally encapsulate the toothed wheel in plastic and if the same tooth to sensor gap was maintained it would have no effect.

Don't be confused by the reference to a 'phonic wheel' in the link below, it refers to a magnetically operating toothed wheel Roll Eyes

My first line of checks in your position would be to check the connectors for the various sensors are good !

Cheers...

I'll have a fiddle around. A bit difficult with an intermittent fault though, might have to get somone to watch the dash while i play with the connections.
